Îmblânzirea scorpiei…din noi
Dacă acceptăm că piesele shakespeariene sunt alegorii, trebuie să căutăm totuşi alte niveluri de înţelegere. În contextul tradiţiei medievale care l-a inspirat pe tânărul Will, Chatarina reprezintă Omul, Everyman, adică pe fiecare dintre noi, cu înţelesul că există o scorpie neîmblânzită în noi toţi care are nevoie să fie domesticită, educată, ideea fiind că nu putem fi liberi decât prin supunere faţă de ceva mai înalt. În spectacolul nostru, în timpul monologului, când actriţa spunea „My Lord/Stăpânul meu”, ea făcea o pauză lungă, privind spre cer: în acel moment, înţelegeam că evocarea „stăpânului” nu are nimic comun cu „lupta dintre sexe”. Kate şi Petrucchio erau uniţi în recunoaşterea unei autorităţi mai subtile. Dragostea este un cadou ceresc.

As I like it…Shakespeare always makes me feel good. Yesterday I saw another Shakespeare (As you like it) and I came to understand that I love him even more.
I simply Kan’t (as I like it to put it)…I simply Kan’t imagine the world without Shakespeare.
